The Iberian Marine Chemistry Seminary (SIQUIMAR), held for the first time in Cadiz in 1983 with a bi-annually character, constitutes a continuous communication channel between Spanish and Portuguese scientists who use chemistry and its tools for the study of marine processes. The different SIQUIMAR editions have been held by Spanish and Portuguese locations – Cadiz, Vigo, Aveiro, Faro, Lisbon, A Coruña, Las Palmas, Alicante- with rooted maritime traditions and high marine investigation activity
For its XIX edition, SIQUIMAR comes back to Vigo, a city deeply connected to the sea that also counts with several research centres on the marine environment (University of Vigo, IEO, IIM-CSIC). As is becoming the custom in the last editions, the Seminary will take place within the VI International Ocean Sciences Symposium. Therefore, is expected that this new edition will generate a fluid exchange of ideas from the presentation of the results achieved, and inspire the attendant researchers to get involved in new cooperation projects.
Continuing with the philosophy of the last editions and considering the multidisciplinary vision with which marine environment research is broached, there are different sections: Chemical Oceanography, Biochemical Processes, Marine Contamination and Ecotoxicology and Climate Change. From this organisation we want to encourage marine researchers and those who have a multidisciplinary profile, to present their best works in any of these sections.
